Learn More About International Rates

International rates for making calls worldwide have declined steadily since 1984. As phone companies in the US divested, the US carriers in an effort to compete for business, began lowering the rates the offered to customers. This competition has driven down the cost of international calls substantially. The service offered by these carriers was landline service. In recent years this has also happened to cellular. International rates for Cellular customers had declined in the last ten years.

In determining a cost factor, and International rate can be calculated by two methods. One, the cost of the call from carrier to carrier worldwide, or haul as they call it, is the distance from one country to another. Two, what country the call terminates. The largest cost is what country the call terminates in. For example, if a customer calls Germany, the German phone companies can change ten cents a minute to receive your call. If you call the UK, they charge seven cents. The cost of the call from the US, with the cost of the ‘haul’ as the call it, is the country the call connects from, is two cents. As you can see the country you call can cost more depending on what that country charges.

These rates a country charges, or the international rate we pay, can vary by dollars. That is due to several reasons. The phone companies have what is called and ‘infrastructure’ which is the phone switching, cable, fiber, and cellular systems they have invested large sums of money to build and need to charge more to pay for them, or they are trying to get a addition source of revenue from the callers.

These international rates also vary due to trade agreements with other countries. Countries that do business with other countries lower the cost of termination to foster companies to do business. This reason is mainly the largest reason for the international rate going down.

Cellular International.com helps customers have a single rate they pay no matter what country they are in. These international rates, even though they vary, have declined 39% in the last five years. Our services, which allow a customer to make calls worldwide, give a single rate to call from one country to another. Try our services and see your international rate go down as well.
