International Calling Industry Growing

International calling, either from a landline or a cell phone, is becoming a more necessary issue these days than ever before. In the last 20 years, the amount of international calls from the US has jumped from 200 million a year to over 6.2 billion! Quite a lot of growth wouldn’t you say? Why is this? International calling use to be for companies that did business overseas, and individuals or governments that had relations with other countries, or just folks like you and me with friends and relatives back home.

Today, international calling as taken a growing crowd of other needs. Yes business, in a new “Global Economy”, certainly has become a huge force and will continue to do so. Still other forces are a work as well. One of these, that is in the media quite a bit, is immigration. Last year 13.7 million new immigrates joined our country from all over the world. These people with friends and relatives to call home to. Many of these individuals also had business in this country and business related international calling to do as well.

Other international calls have been made by the growing amount of “Students Abroad”. These schools and Universities have had in the past small exchange student programs. Today these programs are more than half the student body. Santa Barbara California University boasts a 56% international student body. USC states over 90% in any given year.

The largest factor in international calling has been the move to cellular phones. Students today do not even have a local land line, and exclusively call and text on their cell phones. Most business people make international calls on their cell phones due to the time difference in the countries they call may not permit them to be in their offices. This make cellular international calling the next generation of calls from the US, as well as most other countries.
