International country codes were set up like area codes in the US to give each country their own area code, if you will. These country codes were established in the 1915, and have continued to grow even now as our world changes and grow. In making an international phone call, you must use an international country code to first get to that country you wish to dial. You many also notice when dialing you international phone number than unlike the US, other countries may have as many as sixteen digits as apposed to the ten here in the US. Well, unlike the US with a population of close to three hindered million, the world population is over six billion. These international phone numbers will continue to grow as cellular phones grow as well. We need more phone numbers to accommodate these needs. Currently there are over two billion cellphones in the world.

International calling is certainly growing by the day, and you will notice over time that the country codes, like the new area codes in the US, will grow and change. At least this list will give you a start in the big wide world of making an international call.
